FAQ
Short answers about licensing, scope, styling and how this library compares.
Is it free?
Yes. MIT licensed, with no paid tier, no feature gating and no licence key. You can use it commercially.
Does it depend on a component framework?
No. There is no Material UI, no styled-components, no CSS-in-JS runtime. Styling is plain CSS with custom properties inside @layer tablekit.
Can I use my own design system?
Yes, at three levels: override CSS variables, pass your own class names, or replace whole parts with your own components. See How to customize.
Does it do server-side data?
Every data feature does, and each one independently. See Client and server.
Can I use it without the built-in markup?
Yes. useDataTable gives you the engine and renders nothing; createTable runs without React at all. See Headless.
Is inline editing supported?
Not in 1.0. It is specified and planned; see the roadmap.
How large is it?
56.5 kB min+gzip for a basic import; 20.8 kB for the headless core. Full numbers in Requirements.
